Congratulations to the Seahawks for advancing to the 2026 Super Bowl®! This week we will be highlighting some NFL championship related trademark registrations, including those owned by the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Good luck, Hawks!

The Seattle Seahawks was established in 1974 and began play in 1976 as part of the NFL’s first post-merger expansion, joining the league alongside the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To balance the schedule, Seattle was placed in the NFC for its inaugural season before switching to the AFC the following year. The team later returned permanently to the NFC in 2002 as part of a league realignment.

After several decades of general mediocrity, the franchise reached its first Super Bowl following the 2005 season, falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL. Everything changed in the early 2010s under head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson, as Seattle built one of the league’s most dominant defenses and emerged as a perennial contender. The Seahawks captured their first Super Bowl title with a decisive victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII and returned the following season to Super Bowl XLIX, only to lose in heartbreaking fashion to the New England Patriots. Will this be the year they get their revenge?

Not to be outdone by the Patriots, the Seahawks have an equally impressive trademark portfolio. The team currently owns over 50 US trademark registrations that include a mix of traditional and non-traditional trademarks.

Let’s take a look at Seattle’s trademark registrations in buckets, starting first with their core football operations. SEAHAWKS® [4] and SEATTLE SEAHAWKS® [5] are both registered word marks, the Seahawks Logo [6] and the Seahawks Helmet Logo [7][8] are registered design marks, and the Seahawks Uniform [9] is a registered configuration mark protecting the design of its team uniforms. All of the marks are registered at least for entertainment services.

Seattle’s dominant team of the 2010s was nicknamed the Legion of Boom, and sure enough, BOOM® [10] (for contests and entertainment services provided by a mascot) and LEGION OF BOOM® [11] (for flags and banners) are registered word marks.

Seahawks’ fans famously (or infamously depending on your perspective) call themselves the 12th man, and Seattle’s trademark portfolio backs up that claim. In fact, the 12th man set the Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd noise at a sporting event twice within the span of a few months during the 2013 NFL season, with the latter event also registering on the Richter scale. 12® [12], 12S® [13], THE 12S® [14], BRING ON THE 12® [15], SPIRIT OF THE 12® [16], WE ARE 12® [17], and 12 AS ONE® [18] are all registered word marks and the 12 Fan Logo [19] (the numbers 1 and 2 form the shape of a fan in the middle) and the 12 Blue Logo [20] are registered design marks.

And finally, Blitz is the official mascot of the Seattle Seahawks, debuting in September 1998 as a blue anthropomorphic bird who energizes fans at games and appears at community events throughout the Pacific Northwest. BLITZ® [21], the Blitz Logo [22], and the Blitz Mascot Uniform [23] configuration mark are all trademark registrations protecting the Seahawks’ mascot.
