Brief (and likely incomplete) History [2]:
The color yellow in connection with plastic bats (“Wiffle Bat Yellow”) is a trademark of The Wiffle Ball, Inc. Believe it or not, Wiffle® Ball was originally played with wooden bats. In 1960 the first plastic bat featuring the Wiffle Bat Yellow color was introduced with a smooth handle having black electrical tape wrapped around it. Wooden bats and yellow plastic bats were offered concurrently for another 13 years, until 1972. In 1983, the mold for the bat was changed to add a “rough grip” of little extended dots on the handle.
Today, the perforated white plastic ball and yellow plastic bats are used in playgrounds and backyards everywhere. The Wiffle Bat Yellow color is synonymous with the Wiffle® brand. The Pantone® color for the Wiffle Ball Yellow color is Pantone 102C.
