The first Emmy Awards was held on January 25, 1949, at the Hollywood Athletic Club. The award show focused only on Los Angeles-area television programming, with only six awards presented.

The first Tony Awards ceremony was held on April 6, 1947, in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City. The awards were created by the American Theatre Wing to honor excellence in Broadway theatre.
